From the Tibetan Plateau this river runs through China's Yunnan province, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia. In Phnom Penh the Mekong river receives the Tonle Sap River. The seasonal cycle of changing water levels at Phnom Penh results in the unique “flow reversal” of water into and out of Tonle Sap River. Phnom Penh also marks the beginning of the delta system of the Mekong River. Rich in fishlife the Mekong provides a large amount of the proteins consumed by the Phnom Pen population. Water dwellers and small fishing boats ply the waters incessantly. In the villages along the river is a small cottage industry of Khmer silk weaving which is one of the oldest traditions in Cambodia. We visited one called Heng Naysim. less
