It consists of three lakes in basins on the floor of the valley, known for their high concentration of lesser flamingo, great white pelicans and migratory birds. Lake Nakuru is one of them. All the three lakes are shallow, alkaline and are hydro-geologically connected through sub surface seepage of water. The alkalinity of the three lakes supports the abundant growth of the green algae (spirulina platensis) which is the food of the lesser flamingoes which congregate in the lakes in great numbers. Thousands of pink flamingos have been living forever on Lake Nakuru but are facing environmental threats. less

This is a spectacular resort at the foot of Mount Kenya, the second tallest mountain in Africa. n 1989, the owners saw potential for a luxury tented camp in this space and set out a plan to build 40 tents with a rustic main building and facilities that would rival the best camps in the Mara and the Serengeti. The main building would house a dining room, bar and reception area for the comfort of our Guests. The grounds would feature winding paths through lush flora and boast a swimming pool and observation areas to gather and gaze at the hippos, the crocs and the incredible bird life that inhabits this part of Kenya. The Mara Safari Club opened its doors in 1989 as an offshoot of Mount Kenya Safari Club, hence the name Safari Club. The Club stands on 100 acres of land, leased from the late Senior Chief Lerionka Ole Ntutu. A tented sanctuary lying at the foot of the Aitong Hills, the Mara Safari Club is surrounded on three sides by the Mara River, on the edge of the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The land the Club sits on was an old hunting camp that had been converted to use for photo tours with the ban on hunting in Kenya in 1976. Originally the retreat of the movie star and his friends, the Club's illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. less

Grenada and Romance on CBS TV

Grenada and Romance on CBS TV

Grenada is made up of three different islands, Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Some of the Caribbean’s most gorgeous islands. You can grow practically anything in this fertile soil. For instance Sugar which was used for making rum to be shipped up to the cold north. But of course it’s the spices that put Grenada on the map. The French and British waged war in the 17th and 18th century over who controlled the island and it’s rich crops.., Ft. George, in the capital city was built by the Brits to protect their interests. But what do spices have to do with Romance you ask? A good question. Many of the spices grown here are valued for their aphrodisiac qualities. Take the odd- looking nutmeg. Scratch the surface of any nutmeg and there beats the heart of a mighty aphrodisiac. Excuse me if I seem a little nuts about nutmeg ... But The Compulsive Traveler is also a little obsessive. At Douglaston Spice Estate.... you can pick your own aphrodisiac. Here’s a wonderful combination. Nutmeg and beautiful girls. But what about... Cinnamon or Chocolate? Another celebrated aphrodisiac. Also grown here in Grenada. At the Belmont Estate you see the century-old way chocolate or cocoa beans were prepared for market...by dancing on them in huge copper pots. And this is the way the Big Drum dance, a traditional African Dance was kept alive over the centuries and is still reenacted today. Mix this with the local spices and you get an intoxicating dose of tropical sensuality. From the delicious fresh grilled lobster... To the heady fragrance of the flowers the island pleasures greet you everywhere Here on Carriacou, you see the direct link between spices, sensuality, romance, love and... you guessed it.... marriage. What could be a more perfect place for a wedding? The best part is you don’t have to go anywhere for your honeymoon. It’s all right here. A word of caution: don’t come to Grenada unless you’re prepared to have your passions ignited. (And go easy on the nutmeg.) less
