In Magical Dive Sites, The Compulsive Traveler is pulled in a whole new direction: down, down, down. Diving is now his new passion and he cavorts in three magical dive destinations in the Caribbean. There are many reasons why they call the Cayman Islands a divers dream: this is an entire nation dedicated to both banking and diving! Everything there is absolute: the visibility, the abundance of sea life and the drama of its underwater walls.
At least 2 plane rides are necessary to find truly virgin reefs. The remote St Vincent and the Grenadines is such a place and home to a unique type of diving called “muck diving” which reveals the most amazing sea critters. Several of them have not yet been classified! Hurry before they get into every biology book.
The unspoiled Tobago, because of its Atlantic currents meeting the Caribbean is known for the best and fastest drift diving. Flying underwater is a whole different kind of sport here. Sort of like skydiving but sideways. Strange and terrific to be tumbling through the water while fish life stares motionless.

interesting. Our route from Senegal through much of Mali - sometimes on
fairly good roads and sometimes on unmarked sand tracks. When our vehicle
seemed to be stuck on top of a sand dune at midnight near the Maritanian
border in western Mali we kept telling ourselves that it would make a good
story if we survived. Often the worst travel experiences are the most fun
to talk about in retrospect. less
